It's the Achilles heel of your Business

Dec 10, 2019
There are unlimited resources on the do's and don’ts in growing your business.

Everyone has a method, a system, a process, etc…

The information can be overwhelming and it can cause you to go down a never ending rabbit hole.

I went down the rabbit hole and I got caught up in the mountain of “How to’s” and I need this bell and that whistle… what I didn’t know (at the time) was that was the Achilles heel to my business.

It’s actually quite hard to admit this…

The good news, I learned a lot that’s serving me in growing my business, but when I was exploring the rabbit hole (because it’s extremely time consuming) I neglected an important step because I never felt ready.

The strive for perfection and staying current on every tool, method, system, process… it’ll get you.

Although you and I live in a time that makes being in business easier than ever and tools that allows us to connect with people from all of the world it still about relationships.

When you get caught up in “trying to figure it out” you lose sight of relationships.

This is the Achilles heel of your business.

It isn’t about getting ahead the quickest or who has the most … you and I both know that isn’t sustainable.

It’s about genuinely connecting with others and be a valued resource.

I’ve been in sales for over 20 years and the way selling was done 20 years ago although very different one thing remains constant and that is the relationships you are building with your network, your clients, your team.

So consider this… if your goal is to grow your network in order to grow your business there are 3 key steps to making sure you are making relationships top priority.

#1 It’s all about the first impression… did you know that within 7 seconds of meeting someone you are assessing them or they are assessing you?

You are unconsciously determining traits like trustworthiness. It’s a natural instinct.

Test it out… next time you meet someone become hyper aware of what you're thinking.

This is both on and offline.

Your social media, your website, any online platform... you have a tenth of a second to be relatable to those who you wish to relate with.

If not, you’ve lost that ONE shot to making a memorable first impression.

#2 It’s all about the what’s in it for me… in business there is this element of guardedness and rightfully so. It’s no secret that exploitation is out there and everyone is bidding for our attention.

People are filtering information based on “what’s in it for them.”

This is why it’s important to identify and understand who you are seeking to serve in your business and clearly communicate what’s in it for them as they come into your world.

#3 Make connection a priority… although technology has advanced us in so many ways.

It has also created a safety barrier.

Meaning it’s very easy to shield yourself from the many attempts to gain your attention.

You can ignore message, filter your email, block, unfollow, etc.

Ultimately it’s the code that everyone is trying to crack… how to get and stay on someone’s radar.

When you make connection a priority it’s a process.

It’s building relationship.

If you want to build genuine connections in your relationships start by being aware of your first impression, become interesting by being interested, be a valued resource and lead with the intention of wanting to help.

You do this and you’ll always come out ahead.

It might take you longer, but if you focus on the journey and not the destination it won’t matter.
